*proposed to make a yahoo/google group of private emails emailing

*proposed detachment from TL and the implications of being housed in the building

*proposed a transient 13, housed in different locations, eg. countries

*talked about DEAL festival, about Belgrade opera house (Tony can say more about these)

*talked about PAF in London, to go as individuals/individuals as 13

*questioned ‘how do we constitute ourselves’ if we emancipate from TL

*talked about fluidity of the group, vagueness and flexibility (attendance, economy)

*last meeting in April b4 a report will be written: we go on (?) to see how

more that I did not take note of, or wants to be talked about…

What do we need? Is there a need or we just need to make it happen?

As I am curating and programming Highs & Lows, evening of performances at OT301 in Amsterdam, and the questions that I ask myself when choosing work to present are multiple, I would like to re-toss inside 13 the topic that has already been touched upon in previous meetings: “there is a lack of spaces/buildings/structures for work that is …”
So my question here on the blog is: what do we want? what is needed? and more than talking about practicalities on how to get funded, how to pay the artists, how to be included or confirmed by one or the other circuit of the arts fields, here I’d like to ask for help, to make the program I am running qualitatively valid and also encouraging critique given the range of ‘styles’ that H&L hosts every month.
I would be more than happy sometime in the future to also open H&L to external curators, and would not mind beginning from 13 group, where I hope to find viewpoints that are different from my own and surely strong and valid!

Still Going is a solo performance created by Marina Collard with a film projection by Tom Paine. After a number of attempts to change activity, Marina is reluctant to leave dance behind. In Still Going, she is not sure if, or why she is trying to retire. Drawn back time and again, undecided, unsettled and awkwardly suspended, both Marina and Tom are inevitably left hovering.

Created and performed by Rahel Vonmoos shall i sit here is a layered presentation of recorded and live performance which integrates film, text, light and shadow and celebrates the physicality and simplicity of the performing body. It uses projection to create texture in space in which ideas about distance (temporal and spatial), duration and memory are played out. The development of this work was also prompted by Rahel’s desire to involve elements of personal experience as a woman and mother – but these autobiographical elements can be understood in a wider public sense, as autobiographical to many.

ABOUT LUX13 CRITICAL FORUM…

LUX13 Critical Forum was formed initially as a monthly discussion group for artists who work with the moving image, to talk about ideas and practice in a mutually supportive environment and in dialogue with LUX. LUX13 comprises 15 artists, working with a range of ideas and themes, within multiple social and cultural contexts.

The exhibition includes many new works and a comprehensive publication that expands on this central, unifying theme.

Venue: Trinity Laban, Creekside, London SE8 3DZ LUX13 Critical Forum’s contribution consists of 3 minutes films made by each member in response to a phrase or word provided by another person in the group. Subsequently, these films have been screened at Arcadia Missa, London, Millenium, New York. This is the London viewing of a joint screening by LUX13 and Film Material Soup at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester in October.

13 Forum

The group will be self-organised in the management of the time with no externally set objectives or aims. There is the possibility for the practical sharing of own work alongside questions that arise for that group about broader artistic research and production. This group sits within an institution but questions how it might constitute and support itself. The proposal is for peer-to-peer exchange with a shared responsibility for the direction of the discussions and use of the time and space. There is also the possibility to invite wider audiences into the sharings and to disseminate the discussions beyond the 13.

The group will meet in the Studio Theatre at the Faculty of Dance 18.30h – 20.30h on the following dates
